11 Key Steps for Trustees: Month 1
Welcome to 2018 and our brand new publication: 11 Key Steps for Trustees, 1 Giant Leap for your Charity!
Along with our Not for Profit sector colleagues in our association MHA, we have created a tool to help trustees improve their governance in 11 key steps. Each month covers an important area for trustees, from finding new trustees to risk management. By month 12 you will be able to complete the checklist at the end, reflect on what you have achieved and make a new plan for where you want to be in the future.
Month one of our guide starts at the very beginning as we take a look at the recruitment of trustees. One of our most frequently asked questions is “how do we find new trustees?”. Charities are looking for quality, skilled, engaged trustees, but can’t seem to find them. Or can find them but are not able to retain them for as long as they would like.
This month’s article looks at your current trustee make-up, as well as the skills required, the advertising process, setting expectations, skills audit and induction.
Did you know: More than 2/3rds of trustees are aged 59 or over
Board make-up is such a crucial part to the success of organisations and yet it is an area that often doesn’t get enough focus. We provide useful tips and pointers on how to really get under the skin of recruiting your new trustees. The UK provides a large pool of potential trustees – use these tips to help find your perfect fit. Good luck!
