First Past the Post! The Chichester Business Awards

Hilary Julian - Presented the award

It was with great pleasure on Friday evening that Hilary Julian and Chris Coopey attended the Chichester Observer Business Awards at the Avisford Park Hotel.  It was quite an event with everyone ‘dressed to the nines’ and determined to make a great evening of it.  Hosted by the inimitable Fred Dinenage the evening was a celebration of all that is best in Chichester business.

Of course Carpenter Box weren’t just there for the jolly – we were there to present the award for best business of the year (more than 10 employees) which we sponsored as part of our support programme for Chichester business.

Amongst the shortlisted businesses were; Starline Taxis & Limousines, Premier Motor Homes, Covers, Fontwell Park Racecourse & Conference Centre and the Earl of March Pub and Restaurant.

There could only be one winner of course and Hilary was delighted to hand over the trophy to old friend Phil Bell and his colleague Rebecca Green of Fontwell Park Racecourse & Conference Centre.

Fontwell Park is of course looking forward to delivery of a brand new £6 million plus grandstand in August this year which will give the course some of the most up-to-date corporate hospitality and conferencing space in the region – a great place for Phil and his team to show off the trophy!

Well done Fontwell and well done all the other winners at this year’s awards!

On no it’s the Jelly Beans!

Friday, March 26th, 2010

Jelly Beans?  What’s that all about?  Well…. Yesterday evening (Thursday 25th March) Carpenter Box’s Chris Coopey presented a quiz to members of the Chichester Chamber of Commerce and Industry in aid of the Lifecentre (a fantastic charity supporting people who have suffered sexual abuse – see more at http://www.lifecentre.uk.com/).  The quiz raised hundreds of pounds for the charity and everyone seemed to have a really good time.  And the Jelly beans?  That will have been round 3 – the least popular flavour was earwax!

It’s all happened then – Alistair has delivered what might be his final budget and the media are all over it like a rash.  If you’ve been living in a cave and denuded of online, on digital etc you can take a look at the detail by following this link

Now increasingly, the election will begin to dominate the media’s thoughts and we can look foward to the much heralded TV debates between the party leaders.  Deep joy!

Oh well, not long to the world cup….

Go with Noakes!

Marathon Man - Stuart Noakes!

Sometimes you just have to admire someone’s grit and determination….  Carpenter Box’s very own Stuart Noakes is a good example.  Stu is running the first ever Brighton Marathon on 18th April and is training like nobody’s business.  Thumping up and down the sea front at Brighton and Hove, here there and everywhere.  He’s looking for sponsors to raise money to support the National Autistic Society through the Carpenter Box Charitable Foundation.

Help Stu reach his target by giving a little now at http://www.justgiving.com/CBCF

Monday, March 22nd, 2010

With a wide range of SME business clients we’re well aware that complex employment rules can pose a threat to the competitiveness of UK business.  It can discourage firms from creating jobs, a new report has claimed.  What do you think?  Read more here

There are some other important dates looming. The beginning of April sees the introduction of a number of changes to business regulations. One of those changes means that many firms will have to file their VAT returns online rather than submit them in paper form. More inofrmation here.

Accounts, Tax and Videotape

Wednesday, March 17th, 2010

We’ve been out on the road filming some new testimonials for our ‘love numbers’ website (www.lovenumbers.co.uk).  It’s been great talking to Carpenter Box clients about the services they value (much more than accounts – let me tell you).  Over the past couple of days we’ve filmed in a jewellery business and in a business that manufactures and retails luxury chocolate and in both cases the business owners couldn’t have been nicer to us.  Watch out on the website for the results in the coming weeks and perhaps at the BAFTAs in the ‘Best Factual Programme’ category next year!
