Charities

Carpenter Box already acts for over 40 charities, including national, regional and local charities.

The challenges facing today’s charities make it essential to engage professional advisers with the experience and resources to meet their needs. Changes in their accounting (SORP 2000, SORP 2005), auditing and tax environments, together with the ever-present demands of employment, trusteeship and general charity law, are just a few examples of the increasingly complex regulatory and other potential issues charities face.

Some charities, particularly small local ones, often prefer to save costs by keeping the involvement of their accountants/auditors and other advisors to a minimum. We respect such a decision, providing a basic service at low cost. Where appropriate, however, we can help charities on matters over and above their statutory and other obligations in the traditional areas of accounts, audit and tax – for instance by:

  • reviewing and advising on accounting systems and internal controls
  • advising on such matters as Gift Aid and VAT
  • preparing management accounts
  • providing payroll services
  • assisting with funding applications

The Trustees’ Report is a further area where we can add value, by tailoring its content and presentation to enhance a charity’s image and credibility, enabling a positive impact on donors, staff, service users and partner organisations.

We have directors and staff specialising in the field, with wide experience of charities in many sectors, from small local organisations to regionally-based national charities. We believe we are well placed to serve charities seeking a high standard of service at a cost commensurate with their activities and resources.
