Carpenter Box Partner joins the Tiger’s Pen
Partner and Head of Tax, Stuart Noakes was recently included in a panel of experienced investors, where aspiring entrepreneurs were invited to present their business ideas.
The Tigers Pen is designed for start-ups looking for investment, and for students at universities or Colleges looking at starting their own businesses, to get free guidance from experienced directors who form the collective hub of The Tiger’s Pen, and can advise them in their entrepreneurial venture.
Stuart had this to say of the evening: “I was absolutely delighted to have been part of this fantastic initiative and listen to all the great ideas the students had, it was so nice to be able to feedback and help nurture them. We clearly have some future captains of industry in the making!”
The event, that was held at the University of Brighton was the first student-focused Tiger’s Pen and has become a regular showcase for Business Management BSc (Hons) and International Business Management BSc (Hons) students at the university’s highly rated School of Business and Law, providing feedback from expert judges to help students refine their business plans – which will also be assessed and count towards their degrees.
Four teams of students pitched their business ideas to our team of local ‘tigers’ below:
- Dean Hodges – Gold Pebble
- Flo Powell – Midnight Communications
- Martin Williams – Mayo Wynne Baxter Solicitors
- Rachael Dines – Shake It Up Creative
- Matt Turner – Creative Group
- Nigel Lambe – Sussex Innovation Centre
- Stuart Noakes – Carpenter Box
Our tigers were clear about what they were looking for, with Rachael telling students: “What I’d love to see today is some passion.”
“What I’m looking for is how you’re going to get your product to market,” said Flo. “Slow down, take it easy and relax.”
Dean also offered his advice: “Just be yourself.”
Congratulations to the winning best pitch team – Organic Kitchen! As winners, they’ve won the opportunity to pitch for real investment at the upcoming Sussex Business Show on 28 September.
