VAW Trustee Club launched to success!

Thursday 20th July saw the launch of an exciting new initiative for local Trustees, of which we are proud to be supporting. Voluntary Action Worthing (VAW)’s Trustee Club has been designed for Worthing based trustees and governors to come together, network, and learn about best practice through free masterclasses and resources.

Around 80 local trustees, governors and charity representatives came along to the VAW Trustee Club launch event which was held at the beautiful St Paul’s Centre in Worthing. Guests were welcomed with drinks and nibbles and had the chance to speak to other local charities. They then heard from Voluntary Action Worthing who introduced the Club, along with speakers Chris Coopey from MHA Carpenter Box, Margaret Bamford DL and Caroline Nicholls from The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service and Kevin Richmond of the Sussex Community Foundation. Guests also heard from keynote speaker Kevin Curley on charity governance and board diversity.

As a part of the VAW Trustee Club programme, our Charity and Not for Profit team will be presenting various masterclasses over the next nine months:

  • 21st September 2017: Are you an effective board?
  • 25th January 2018: Strategy, tax implications and making the most of VAT
  • 22nd February 2018: Financial resilience and effective use of resources
  • 29th March 2018: Internal controls review and reducing fraud risk

There will also be a special event on 16th November for Trustees Week with keynote speaker Dan Francis, from the NCVO, who focusses on governance reviews, board performance and trustee training. The launch event proved how much appetite there is for a support network of this kind and we hope that all Trustees – old and new – will benefit from the Club and all it has to offer!
