Companies House fee increases: What you need to know

Starting 1 May 2024, Companies House has implemented significant changes to the fees for several of their services. These changes affect common services including Confirmation Statements, Company Incorporations, Change of Name and Applications to Strike-off. This update follows previous changes implemented on 4 March 2024 resulting from the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act 2023 (ECCT). Companies must now include an email address on their CS01 form. They will also need to provide identification before incorporation and for all submissions to Companies House after the next stage of changes is implemented.

What does this mean for you?

From 1 May 2024, the costs for 59 services offered by Companies House will see substantial fee increases. Here is a summary of the updates to some of our most-used online services (fee for online submission, not paper):

  • New Company Incorporations: The fee has increased from £12.00 to £50.00.
  • Change of Company Name: The cost has risen from £8.00 to £20.00.
  • Company Strike Off: The filing fee has been adjusted from £8.00 to £33.00.
  • Annual Confirmation Statement: The price has gone up from £13.00 to £34.00.

Reasons behind Company House price increases

Companies House has clarified that the fee adjustments aim to align the charges with the actual cost of providing these services. They have stated, “Fees are set on a cost recovery basis, and they must cover the cost of the services we deliver. We do not make a profit on our fees.”

These additional costs are partly due to new powers granted through the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act. This legislation has introduced measures to enhance the integrity of the business register, support a healthy business environment, and combat economic crime. The increased fees will help cover the costs associated with investigative and enforcement activities that support these goals.
