Thomas Mobee
Thomas is a VAT and Indirect tax specialist with over 25 years’ experience, the first 7 of which was spent with HMRC (which was then HM Customs & Excise), variously as a Senior VAT inspector, Local VAT & Excise fraud investigation officer and Senior Large Trader Assurance Officer. He joined Carpenter Box in August 2022, prior to which he worked with a couple of mid-tier firms, as well as a top 4 firm of Accountants. In his most recent role, he assisted with the growth of the mid-tier firm from 330 to over 550 employees within a period 6 years.
Having started his professional career in the legal field following graduation from Law School, as well as a short stint with a firm of Solicitors, Thomas fell into the world of Indirect tax when he joined HMRC. He is an active member of the Charity Tax Group, the VAT Practitioners Group and Chartered Institute of Legal Executives. He assists a mixed portfolio of clients in managing their VAT affairs with a view to minimising their indirect tax risks and improving their VAT compliance. His areas of focus have, over the years, been on advising clients on VAT implications affecting sectors such as the charity & not for profit, construction, land and property, financial services, education, digital services, Automotive, professional services, technology, media and telecom, manufacturing, health & welfare, pharmaceutical, retail and e-commerce.
Thomas is leading the drive to further grow the VAT and Indirect tax services offering within the Tax Services Group across all Carpenter Box offices.
Outside of the office
Thomas plays golf (quite badly), he thoroughly enjoys watching his beloved Arsenal FC, attending youth football and basketball games, and relaxes by carrying out a spot of DIY when he is able to fit it in. He also makes fairly regular visits to areas of interest in Scandinavia.
